Outside Plant Engineer - (Show Details)


Outside Plant

Reports to:
Outside Plant Director

General Summary:
The purpose of this position is to design and manage the installation of the local telecommunications network, and coordinate fiber and copper placement and other services with the cable group to specified custom buildings. This will include all activities to extend the fiber network into buildings. It will also be responsible for all vertical and horizontal riser copper and fiber cables.

Key Responsibilities:
• Selects routing of lines and equipment required projects.
• Prepares detailed construction and installation drawings, estimates equipment, labor, and material costs.
• Initiates work authorization request and submits request with substantiating drawings and documents to management for approval.
• Orders materials and equipment required and directs work activities to make sure they conform to engineering specifications.
• Coordinate access to inside building wiring and inside conduct for cabling, as required.
• Engineer the fiber and copper cable network for the specific building, including all inside wiring design, and outside plant design.
• Coordinate with cable engineering and technical management on construction and service functions.
• Perform site surveys to provide pre-sale cost estimates for servicing a specific building.

Required Skills:
• Understanding of telecommunications industry;
• Knowledge of accepted engineering practices;
• Knowledge of aerial and buried cable placement and splicing methods, copper and fiber;
• Knowledge of feeder and distribution cable pair design;
• Knowledge of DLC site installation techniques;
• Knowledge of accepted engineering practices;
• Operate a company vehicle (with valid in-state driver's license;
• May be climbing on ladders, telephone poles and/or towers;
• Throughout the year, will be working inside and outside;
• Approximately 10% travel.

Qualifications and Education:

• Ability to find, read, understand and update information in a fiber management system , AutoCAD application or in Microstation;
• A minimum of five years of experience managing projects related to OSP construction;
• A minimum of five years direct, hands-on experience with OSP engineering, construction inspection, or field operations networks is preferred;
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and dedication to customer service and satisfaction;
• Four Year Degree in a related technical field

Pre-Sales Engineer - (Show Details)



Reports to:
Data Storage Solutions Director

General Summary:
Involved in all procedures and initiatives before selling products. The pre-sales engineer helps sales force to improve products, working with sales personnel and engineering team, provisioning and implementation to meet client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provides technical guidance account representatives, account managers and account executives and assists in pre-sales activities.
• Reviews the current status of client technology processes
• Plans and modifies product configurations to meet client requirements
• Lead in the development of presentations, RFP design and responses, quotes and customer proposals
• Train and daily coaching new Sales Engineers or Sales personnel on new technology
• Attending customer meetings both initial first call and follow up meetings
• Design solutions for hosted opportunities, multi-site opportunities, all Type2 opportunities and involved with many single site on-net opportunities
• Respond to RFPs
• Daily guidance/assistance with how to price solutions
• Daily discussions with sales representatives on opportunities to ensure we are pricing opportunities to cover costs and meet our payback model
• Demonstration of services for opportunities and current customers
• Approve pricing for sales representatives
• Training for representatives on platforms
• Involved with strategic planning for key accounts
• Develop Google map files for customer / opportunities
• Meet with representatives one on one to review accounts/opportunities
• Assist with sales campaigns/blitzes; pricing strategies, market development
• Request and negotiate pricing with all Type2 carriers
• Put together quotes and pricing in Quotewerks
• Assist with development of sales marketing material
• Develop and assist with costing/pricing information for new market deployments
• Provide monthly review of sales information for team
• Consistently review proposals with representatives prior to customer review to ensure accuracy
• Daily interaction with reps answering questions of how we deploy services, equipment we use, average construction costs, drop job v. not a drop job

Required Skills:

Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree or professional certification in engineering, or a closely related field.
• Three years of work experience in "pre-sales" environment.
• Technical knowledge in telecommunications, VOIP, Cisco solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and conversational skills.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Able to travel up to 25% of the work week - some overnights.
• Interest in continuing education in technology.
